Stentor protozoan. Light micrograph of a Stentor sp. freshwater ciliate protozoan. The body, or cortex, is generally trumpet-shaped with a ring of prominent cilia (bottom left) that sweep in food and aid in swimming. Some Stentor species can grow up to two millimetres in length, making them among the largest single-celled organisms.
