He was the possessor of anexpert riflemans medal. Lieutenant Vant Hof was married on November 30,1917, to Miss Grace Marie Otte of GrandRapids, Mich. Besides his widow he is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. KrynVant Hof, of 424 Sweet street, N. E., Grand Rapids. A brother. Lieutenant BernardVant Hof, was killed in BORN SEPTEMBER 4, 1895DIED SEPTEMBER 26, 1918 CAPTAIN EVERETT LEVI VARNEY Company E, 12 7th Infantry, Thirty-second Division. Died at Base Hospital , France, on October 19, 1918, from woundsreceived in action on October 1 4th. 15. Capt. EVERETT L. VARNEY Captain Varney was born in Green- —_—^ ^■ wood. Wis., on September I I, 1896. Hewas educated in the public schools of thatcity, graduating from high school in wras then employed by the RoddisVaneer Lumber Company, but gave upthe position to enlist in the WisconsinNational Guard, with which he servedeight months on the Mexican border pre-vious to his admission to the First Offi-cers Training Camp at Fort Sheridan,where he was a member of the NinthCompany. Receiving his commission. Lieu-tenant Varney was ordered to Camp Cus-ter, Mich., and later to Camp Greene,Charlotte, N. C, where he was promotedto a first lieutenancy. On December
