Bent Pyramid, Egypt. View looking up from one of the corners of the Bent Pyramid at the Dahshur necropolis, south of Cairo, Egypt. This pyramid, dating from 2596 BC, was the second pyramid built on the orders of the Pharaoh Sneferu. Its name was given because the angle of its sides becomes shallower between the lower and upper sections. The pyramid, which rises to a height of 101 metres, consists of limestone blocks. A finer grade of limestone was used for the smooth outer casing, parts of which are still present.
