Another point which I want to bring out is, that a steeltie to be serviceable should be of such section that it can beused anv place. A section which has special shaping to admitthe rail or assist in holding it to gauge, is not suitable in switchesas each tie would have to be prepared as a separate piece. TheI beam tie is rolled in long lengths and can be cut to anylength and applied any place in any track. In other words, inorder to make the steel tie interesting,
