Towards the ruined farmstead of Jerah, Menstrie Glen in the Ochils.

A thriving population occupied Menstrie Glen prior to the plough giving way to sheep in the late 18th century. Menstrie Glen contains extensive, well-documented and well-preserved pre-Improvement settlement and agricultural remains, which have been traced back almost five centuries in a survey by the RCAHMS. Many of the agricultural remains are clearly visible in the papers and journals of James Wright of Loss and the RCAHMS archeological field survey brought together the story of the area’s transformation in “Well Shelterd and Watered: Menstrie Glen, a farming landscape near Stirling”.
