NGC 4151 galaxy core, composite image. Dubbed the 'Eye of Sauron' this area surrounds the galaxy's central supermassive black hole. This black hole is seen as an X-ray source (blue/white) in the data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory. Radio data (red) from the Very Large Array shows a ring of hydrogen gas being pulled apart by the black hole. Optical data (yellow) from the Jacobus Kapteyn Telescope shows areas of star formation. The image is about 37,500 light years across. NGC 4151 is located around 43 million light years from Earth, in the constellation of Canes Venatici. Image published in 2011.
