Despite its usual custom of slumping after a holiday, the market this week, so far as regards demand, has been fairly prosperous. There is an abundance of most grades of stock and prices have suf- fered a severe fall. White carnations arer scarce and bring good prices, although there is any quantity of the colored va- rieties to be had at figures far below normal. A peony glut seems imminent, as large shipments of these flowers have been arriving all week.

Thus far, how- ever, they have maintained excellent prices, some houses having disposed of large consignments at $i per dozen. The quality is good in most instances and where the stock is long stemmed, there is an excellent demand. Rose stock is not very good for the greater part, al- though its selling power seems unim- paired. American Beauty is becoming very scarce as well as Bride and Brides- maid. The warm weather is doing much damage to all lines of stock and whole- salers are aiming to keep their supplies down to a minimum as much as possi- ble. Cape jasmine is arriving in good quantities and sells well wherever of- fered. NOTES. The regular meeting of .the Florists' Club will be held at Handel hall June 14. _ The entertainment committee has decided on June 24 as the date for the annual outing, the location: the famous Higinbotham woods at Joliet. It will be a basket picnic and ball and other games, with liberal prizes, will be pro- vided. Railroad tickets can be had at all wholesalers on and after June 11. Everyone should secure a supply at once so that the committee can con- clude arrangements. Spread the news and make the gathering a big one. Mayor Dunne has enforced the city ordinance in regard to obstruction of public streets by flower venders, to the extent of removing all fruit and flower .stands on sidewalks within the loop district.
