The seats arecovered with leather; all windows are plate glass, and, as itis intended to run these cars in trains, the vestibules are ar-ranged so that passengers may readily pass from one car tothe other. EFFICIENCIES OF CAR EQUIPMENT To determine the relative efficiency of the various types ofequipments, tests were carried out by Mr. Herrick on eachtype of rolling stock, for the purpose of securing autographicrecords of the current demand, voltage, delivery and speed-time curves, as well as for determining the efficiencies inclimbing grades. The friction coefficient was derived for each type of equip-ment in the following way: The total time required for thepower to be applied to operate the car, and the time whichthe car floated without the application of power, were brought. 1 1 ! 1 j -0- // // 1 r / / / / // ///, / /,// IS () k JWj^ 77, f , y 13 / // /// * 0 / // \K // t/lV /y, / fi / / / // ^ ■// / / Car No. Curve , ^ V / /, / 8 - /• / / (}/ Ifi — — — -- -- -- ^ ■• • y 17 — - _ — ._ — 18 1 1 Si )ee( 1 * [.p.
