At 70 years old Frank took the biggest challenge of his life by rowing 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean solo, while raising £1 million for Alzheimer’s Research UK. He set off on the 12th December 2020 from La Gomera near Tenerife and landed in Antigua three days before Valentine’s day 2021, where he was reunited with his wife of 50 years. Frank had undertaken the challenge in honour of Roger, his 62 year old brother-in-law who died of Alzheimer’s while he was away. As the oldest person to row solo and unassisted across the Atlantic, Frank entered the Guinness Book of Records. Frank when the mystery of who had made the sign was resolved. ‘The Island’ It was the third time that Frank had sailed the Atlantic, he has also climbed Kilimanjaro and was the tenth person to circumnavigate North and South America by boat.
