He served in operations at Liege, Auchen, Cologne, Dortmund, Hamm, Beckum, and the Battle of the Bulge. By war’s end, Stone had risen to the rank of second lieutenant. He is a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal; Purple Heart; Combat Infantry Badge; Sharpshooter Badge; European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars; Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
