Mesa y objetos blancos, (Table and white objects), oil on canvas by Cristino De Vera, (1980), x cm
Cristino de Vera was born in 1931 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. In 1946 he began his artistic training at the School of Arts and Crafts in his hometown, where he was a teacher Mariano de Cossio, who introduced him to the postcubism and poetry of the Generation of '27. In 1951, at age 20, he decided to go to study in Madrid, where he attended the workshop of Vázquez Díaz. He completed his education at the School of Fine Arts of San Fernando and at the Circulo de Bellas Artes. At 22 he decided to start from scratch, and take on their own intuition. In the 50, due to its participation in a group show at the gallery Xagra (1952) and his first solo show in the gallery Style (1954), his painting was known in Madrid's artistic scene. He made other solo exhibitions in the capital of Spain: Bishop Hall (1956 and 1957), Ateneo de Madrid (1959). In 1960 he obtained a grant from the Juan March Foundation for which he traveled to Belgium and Holland. The following year he toured Italy and France. In the 60s and 70s he participated in group exhibitions in most of Spain, and also in international exhibitions such as the Biennale de Paris II in 1961, the Venice Biennale in 1963 and the Fair of New York in 1964.
