In otherwords, that is the amount of energy thatwill raise the temperature of two gramsof water or of human tissue 1 centi-grade. Hence, it is apparent that ahot compress or a swallow of hot waterwill give to the human body much moreof the same energy than this energy ofx-rays. But it is well known that thisquantity of x-rays is capable of produc-ing severe necrosis of cells and even thedeath of a human being. From this itmay be deduced, that x-rays are in-deed a very unusual therapeutic agent, and that the ceils are profoundly in-. Professor Friedrich Dess; nier, Ihl>- Frankfurt am Main, Gern lanv. whose work made deep ro(>ntgen ray therapy fluenced when the high frequencywaves of x-rays are passing throughthem. During radiation the cells areplaced in quickly oscilliating electricand magnetic fields at points where elec-tric and magnetic forces are produced, disappearing and changing in direction, for that IS the description of oscilla-tions in a hitherto neutral place. Thegreat problem which still remains un- the effect of the frequency V of thepulsating field upon the cells? Thenature of the energy produced by thex-ray tube and striking the body is wellknown. We also know of the histo-logical changes which such energy pro-duces. But how the one effects theother, is still a matter of great uncer-tainty. Very often this question hasbeen asked, and very often attemptshave been made to solve it by biologicalmethods of research. The activationand d
