When the subject of thissketch was three years of age, hisfather, who was a Presbyterian min-ister, with a large family and a small salary, moved,by way of the Hudson River and Erie Canal, toFayetteville, in search of an inceased income and alarger field of work. Fayetteville was then the moststraggling of country villages, about five miles fromPonipey Hill, where Governor Seymour was born.
