Elephant-proof gates, protected by long spikes, at the entrance to the Raja Mahal, part of the Orchha Fort complex in Northern India.

This image shows the massive wooden gates at the entrance to the Raja Mahal, part of the Orchha Fort complex in the northern Indian town of Orchha. Attackers would use elephants to push open the fort's gates. To overcome this the gates were fitted with angled sharp iron spikes that would pierce the elephant's tough skin should there be an attempt to push the gates open using the power of the elephant.
