“Work on a second Metrolink line through the heart of the city centre has begun. The three-year £165m Second City Crossing project will allow more trams to cross Manchester. Starting in Lower Mosley Street, it will run through St Peter's Square before turning down Princess Street and along Cross Street. After Corporation Street, it will re-join the existing line just outside Victoria station. The planned finish date is early 2017 – but the section up to Exchange Square could be ready in 2015. Transport bosses hope it will curb congestion, boost reliability and cater for growing passenger numbers.”
