During King Philips War, Weymouth suffered from several Indianattacks, and many of its outlying houses were burned. A hundred yearslater there was a flurry of battle on the Weymouth islands; and peace hassince reigned, although the monument to ninety-nine of her citizens, whodied as soldiers in the Secession War, attests the patriotism of the the natives of Weymouth was Joshua Bates, the famous Londonfinancier, and benefactor of the Boston Public Library. jV^.
