north slope of etna volcano, sicily. italy. mount etna is one of the most active volcanoes in europe, it is situated within the etna regional park (parco regionale dell'etna) and the park organises excursions and guided tours open to everyone. excursionists hiking toward a dagala (a vegetation island surround with lava) on old lava flows called sciara del follone. the fertile volcanic terrain supports an array of flora and fauna including magnificent forests.
