The Tarrytown Horticultural Society held its nineteenth annual dinner at the Florence Inn, Tarrytown, Tuesday evening, January 13. In common with many other organizations, this society dispensed with its annual dinner during the war, which prevented the one just held ranking as the twenty-first and celebrating as well the twenty-first year of the society's existence. About seventy-five were present and the menu was of the usual high order. The tables were decorated with a liberal display of flowering plants and ferns. The Tarrytown dinner is noted for its bril- liant array of after-dinner speakers and this year was no exception, the oratory being of a fine order. Professor L. V. Case was toastmastcr, and the list of speakers included Frank E. Pierson, Eev. F. W. Irwin, Judge G. A. Slater, Eev. J. J. Henry and J. G. Curtis. Be- tween speeches E. E. Carman rendered solos and Malcolm Shackleford gave songs and monologues. Secretary E. W. Neubrand had charge of arrangements, which wore perfect in detail. David Ward, Queens, N. Y., expected to be among the visitors at the conven- tion of the American Carnation Society in Chicago this week, but was prevented from taking the trip by the illness of Mrs. Ward.
