The 2016–17 unrest in Kashmir, also known as the Burhan aftermath, refers to a series of violent protests in the Muslim-majority Kashmir Valley in the Indian-administered state of Jammu and Kashmir. It started with the killing of Burhan Wani, the militant commander of the Kashmir-based Hizbul Mujahideen profreedom group by Indian security forces on 8 July 2016. After his killing, anti-India protests started in whole Kashmir Valley. Curfew was imposed in Kashmir valley, mobile services were suspended by the state government.
