The district of Varosha (Kapalı Maraş) in Famagusta (Cyprus) was between 1970 and 1974 one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Its Greek Cypriot inhabitants fled during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, when the city of Famagusta came under Turkish control.
