Orion's Belt and nebulae. The three stars forming the horizontal line here are known as Orion's Belt, and form part of the constellation of Orion. From left to right they are: Alnitak (Zeta Orionis), Alnilam (Epsilon Orionis) and Mintaka (Delta Orionis). Orion is a large and prominent constellation that straddles the celestial equator, making it equally visible from the northern and southern hemispheres. Emission nebulae (red) and dark nebulae (black) are at left, including the Horsehead Nebula (B33), IC 434, and the Flame Nebula (NGC 2024).
