Arctic climate research expedition. View of the Tara polar schooner amongst pack-ice in the Arctic. This research vessel was built for the Tara Expedition, which helped to show the effects of global warming. It was launched in August 2006 and drifted in the ice for 2 years, until February 2008, as part of the international DAMOCLES (Developing Arctic Modelling and Observing Capabilities for Long-term Environmental Studies) program.
