Memorial for Julius Fučík , Czech Communist Journalist arrested by Nazis and murdered in 1943. Monument in the Bürgerpark, Pankow, Berlin Julius Fučík was as a journalist and author for the Communist Party in Czechoslovakia in the 1930s. The country became the "Reich Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia after occupation by the Wehrmacht. Fucik continued to work in the Communist resistance movement until he was arrested by the Gestapo in Prague in April 1942. He wrote ‘Reports Written under the Noose’ while in prison and this work is one of the most important accounts of European resistance. In May 1943 Julius Fučík was abducted to Germany, where in the night of September 7 and 8, 1943, he was murdered together with 143 other victims of persecution by the National Socialist regime. The Monument in Bürgerpark is by sculptor Zdeněk Němeček . It consists of 5 tall steles and is inscribed with the words ‘Menschen, ich hatte euch lieb. Seid wachsam” – People I love you, be careful
