The Paul Rose is a cross of the Osage with Netted Gem. In Chicago and some other Western cities, where there is a good demand for the red or salmon-fleshed varieties, the Paul Rose sells at double the price of other sorts. Market gardners who grow red-fleshed melons will find the Paul Rose their most profitable sort, while for the home table nothing better could be desired cr obtained. An improved strain of the Netted Gem type, which has been grown on a very large scale, and to a wonderful degree of perfection, in Rocky Ford, Colorado. It is by far the most popular sort on the market, and commands higher prices than any other variety. The true type is shown by our illustration, the shape being oval and the average length about five inches. It is very sweet and most delicately flavored, with exceedingly fine and smooth grain- ed flesh of a light green color.
