SELECTION AND CARE OF hackle is the first instrument used, and is forthe purpose of straightening tangled hair, or is made in two sizes. No. i and No. 2. In large 68 HAiRDRESSERS* MANUAL. establishments, where a great deal of work is beingdone, No. 2 would be the best size to select. The hackle is fastened to work stands or table bymeans of screws at each end, and should be so fastenedthat it can be easily taken off to be cleaned, as in thework of straightening the hair it becomes filled withdust and short The short tufts of hair that become tangled in theteeth should be picked out with a hairpin or any smalJinstrument that will work well through the teeth, andafter removing it from the work stand can be thoroughly scrubbed. There is no difference in length ofteeth or distance apart in the two sizes. The dif-ference is in the number of teeth each contains.
