The 17th Century Old Town Hall in the Market Place in Carlisle city centre is a Grade One Listed original building had commercial facitities on the ground floor with assembly rooms above which were used as courts of assize until 1881. Outside the town hall is a replica of the "Penfold" pillar box the first post box in England erected in 1853.
