111222-N-DX615-057 SINGAPORE (Dec. 22, 2011) Chief Warrant Officer Marc Lefebvre, dressed as Santa Claus, greets children at Singapore’s Child at Street 11 care center, where Sailors and Marines from the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) gave gifts to children as part of a community service project. Makin Island is on its maiden deployment and conducting operations in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility in support of the Navy’s maritime strategy. Makin Island is the Navy’s newest amphibious assault ship and the only Navy ship with a hybrid electric propulsion system.
