It is part of the municipality of Tías. Puerto del Carmen has about 7 km of tourist attractions, three beaches and has hotels for up to 30,000 guests. The Avenida de las Playas or the New Town area has many restaurants, bars, shops and a casino. Apartments, villas and hotels cover a kilometre or so inland from the coastline. The quaint and peaceful old town includes the harbour and docks, the Puerto Tinosa. Here there are a smaller variety of restaurants and bars but all have amazing views across the harbour and the sea to the volcanic mountains of Papagayo beyond.
