The last moments of Mary Stuart, aka Queen of the Scots, Mary I of Scotland ( 1542-1587), who reigned over Scotland from 14 December 1542 to 24 July 1567. On the evening of 7 February 1587, Mary was told she was to be executed the next morning and spent the last hours of her life in prayer. The scaffold that was erected in the Great Hall at at Fotheringay Castle, Northamptonshire, England was draped in black cloth.
