Live a^d Dead Weight of Pigs. Sir,—Your correspondent, U. (J. C, asks, What is a fair percentage to write off fat hogsof 18 stone live weight? This will depend onthe breed of the pigs and also on the food withwhich they have been fattened. The large andmiddle white Yorkshires will give the largestproportion of dead to live weight, but a fair re-duction on an average would bo about 20 percent. The fat pigs at the Smithfield Show ofabout 2801b. lost about 501b., or about 18 percent.—Purveyor. December 21, 1905. Midland Notes. Sir,—If proof were needed of the difficultyin writing fanning reports applicable to largedistricts, your correspondent afforded it in yourlast issue, where he writes that Farm work ismore in arrear than any one thought likely atthe beginning of winter. I am an old hand, but I do not remember a season when farm work•was more generally up to time. Personally, Ihave seldom had my ploughing and other workso forward
