Crinoid resting on hard coral. Crinoids are primitive echinoderms, relatives of starfish and sea urchins. They feed by filtering food particles from the water using their feathery arms, the hairs of which pass food to a central mouth. They inhabit shallow and deep waters across the world's oceans.
