At New Castle a skindiver made the collection from about 5 feet of water while at Gloucester the animals were obtained with a rake over the side of a rowboat. The total number of specimens collected from these two localities was 519. The animals were pre- served in 10% formalin in fresh water for 24-72 hours and then dried at room temperature before being measured. The rake was purchased as a steel garden rake 14 inches wide and about 4 inches high at the opening, with two-inch teeth spaced one inch apart along the lower side of the opening. The handle, 5 feet in length, was made of wood. Hardware cloth (|-inch mesh) was used to construct a basket, 14 inches deep,.
