Mountain gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) eating. The mountain gorilla is one of two subspecies of eastern gorillas. It inhabits the Virunga volcanic mountains of Central Africa and feeds mainly on leaves, shoots and stems of plants. It is considered to be critically endangered (as of 2009) due to loss of habitat and poaching for bushmeat. Photographed in Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda.
