The Emperor had written tothe Queen, requesting Her Majesty to confer thehonour of knighthood upon his English physi-cian. His Imperial Majestys letter is as in-teresting as the Queens reply. The Emperorwrote at the same time these few lines to SirMorell :— I wish to give you an Order in grateful re-cognition of your valuable services to me, andin remembrance of my accession to the shall therefore ask the Queen whether shewill make an exception in your case, and allowyou to accept and wear the decoration. Mackenzie remarks upon this with a touch ofpardonable pride :—.
