Fort Santiago, Manila. The oldest fortification of Manila was originally of logs and earth, This was replaced by a stone structure that was damaged by the 1645 and restructured by 1663 it was the HQ of the British army in1762 until 1764. It was the HQ of the Japanese army in 1942. Hundreds of civilians and guerillas were imprisoned, tortured and executed there in the battle of Manila in a Shrine of Freedom in in 1950 it was turned over to the Intramuros Administration in 1992.
