View SW of Dun Troddan Iron Age broch tower, Glenelg, Scotland, UK, showing the inward slope (batter) of the exterior drystone wall surviving to over Two skins of walling, tied together by flat lintel slabs forming the floors & ceilings of galleries between the walls, enclose a circular court accessed by a strongly defended entrance passage. A mural cell leads off the entrance passage & another cell is entered from the court. Stairs lead up from this cell to first floor level & a second flight climbs higher. At first floor level a wooden balcony or floor with an open centre was supported by a projecting stone ledge (scarcement) & a ring of wooden posts.
