Castle of Juvinyà of the village of Sant Joan les Fonts in the Garrotxa region of Gerona province, Catalonia, Spain

The Juvinyà fortress house is a construction from the 12th - 14th centuries, made up of two parts: the defensive tower, the oldest part and the 14th century house. In 1972 it was declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest. It is popularly known as the castle of Juvinyà. Its history is as old as the stones that support it. The Fonts family, were the first owners of the land where the castle is today, they operated a hydraulic flour mill in the same place that we can see the castle. At the end of the 13th century the mill burned down and on its remains the new owners, the Knights of Juvinyà, built their permanent residence: Estada Juvinyà. The last descendants of the saga of knights, Gueraua de Juvinyà and Pedro de Hortal, left the house at the end of the 14th century. The house passed into the hands of several peasant families who kept the name until in 1982 it was acquired by the municipality's town hall. In 2003 the restoration works were completed and the first permanent exhibition was opened to the public in 2005. The Castle of Juvinyà is one of the three constructions that is part of the Medieval Route of Sant Joan les Fonts, with the medieval bridge and the Benedictine monastery church. The monument is part of the Route of Cultural Castles of Catalonia.
