Museum of London: Capital City Project, London, United Kingdom. Architect: Wilkinson Eyre Architects, 2010. Learning center duri
The Capital City Project forms the second phase of the Museum of London’s initiative to improve its gallery space, and was made possible through Heritage Lottery Funding. It has created more accommodation for display and at the same time transformed parts of the main galleries - which are now nearly 30 years old - around the central Garden Court. The new galleries of Modern London fronting onto London Wall provide a showcase for some of the Museum’s best loved objects, including the Lord Mayor’s Coach. The project has transformed the building and its display spaces to deliver a new, revitalised Museum in the heart of the city. The project also included a reorganisation of circulation flow around the museum, and the creation of the new Clore Learning Centre. This facility, one of the first elements of the project to be completed, forms a focus for the Museum’s mission to develop further its educational outreach programmes.
