Lockwood Made AssistantManager of the United Railways inCharge of Purchases To secure an increase in operating-efficiency, Rolla Wells, receiver of theUnited Railways, St. Louis, Mo., hassomewhat reorganized the companysexecutive personnel. Major Richard has been appointed assistantmanager. Major Lockwood will reportto Colonel A. T. Perkins, general man-ager, relieving him of many duties, andthus enabling him to give his attentionto more important matters. Questionspertaining to supplies and purchases. MAJOR R. J. LOCKWOOD will come under Major Lockwoods di-rect supervision. The responsibilities of Walter , superintendent of power, andC. L. Hawkins, engineer maintenance ofway, have also been extended by Colo-nel Perkins. The general manager hashimself absorbed the duties formerlyperformed by the chief engineer. Major Lockwood, the new assistantmanager, is a newcomer in the electricrailway field, most of his experiencehaving been in steam railroading. Hewas born in St. Louis thirty-eight yearsago. Shortly following his graduationfrom the engineering department ofWashington University, St. Louis, in1904, he entered engineering and con-struction work. After holding engi-neering and executive positions withseveral roads he became vice-presidentand general manager of two subsidiarylines of the Frisco system inLouisiana. He later served as vice-president and manager of the Appa-lachicola Railroad in Florida. During the war Major Lockwood served with Colonel Per
