Fig. 126 shows theworking drawing for thenewel post, the explana-tion of which will be un-necessary. The easing isthe bend inthe rail be-fore it strikes the newelpost. The method of lay-ing out a graceful easingis shown in Fig. straight piece of railis worked out with thehollow and the roundplanes which are to befound in the tool room. The return or twist re-quires to be developed by descriptive geometry, and to do this we will refer todrawing Fig. 121 in order to find the diameter of thewell. It will be noticed that one half of the twist isparallel with the landing and that the curve for thathalf would be a true quarter circle, while the other halfof the twist, that part which follows the incline of thestairs, would be part of an ellipse.
