The higher peak of Volcan Uturunco (6008m), Bolivia

Uturunco is a 2008m high semi-active volcano that comprises of two peaks. The lower one has the remains of a road to near the top, which used to service a sulphur mine. Once claimed to be the highest motorable road in the world, it was blocked by a landslide some years ago and abandoned, and is now impassable. The higher peak was the starting point for an long-distance endurance mountainbike race, the Bolivian Challenge, in 2005 and 2006. The zig-zag path from the col to the top can just be seen on the left.
