There were some spots of blood found on a washstand at thechurch, but no blood stains were ever found on Durrants clothing,which fact was always argued as a point in the prisoners favor. As appears from the foregoing pages, Durrant was never tried forthe killing of Minnie Williams. The inquest on the body of MinnieWilliams, however, was held before that of Blanche Lamont and theCoroners jury promptly charged him with the crime of her first preliminary examination before the magistrate was on theWilliams case and the magistrate promptly held him to answer on thischarge. It was thought by the prosecuting officers that the chain ofevidence was most complete in the Lamont case and it was for thatreason that the Lamont charge was first tried, although in develop-ing the testimony in the Lamont case the witness Zenger was discov-ered which made the Williams case probably stronger than the DETECTIVE JOHN SEYMOUR,Assistant to Capt.
