Leaves, picked young, are good boiled. Indians gathered seeds by knocking them into baskets. The seeds were stirred over an open fire in a pan, then ground and made into a mush or stirred into soup. Pomo Indians mixed the seeds with their corn meal for better taste. In Mexico the seeds were made into a poultice for wounds.
