. Atlas of the rare vascular plants of Ontario. Rare plants; Botany. HABITAT: Limestone and serpentine outcrops. STATUS: Rare in Canada. Endangered in Pennsylvania and Tennessee; rare in lowa. NOTES: Cerastium velutinum is best treated as a species that is distinct from C. arvense, since it has twice as many chromosomes, is morphologically distinct, and is genetically isolated. It is currently under review in the United States for federal threatened or endangered status ( Fish & Wildlife Service 1985). It is very local in those states where it occurs. HABITAT: serpentine. It is currently under review in the United States for federal threatened or endangered status ( Fish & Wildlife Service 1985). It is very local in those states where it occurs. HABITAT: serpentine.
