A young man sits at the base of a statue of Bogyoke or General Aung San, modern Burma's founding father, near Royal Lake in Rangoon or Yangon, Burma or Myamar. Aung San (1915-1947) pushed the British government to grant Burma total independence by 1948 but was assassinated in 1947. Aung San founded the Burmese military in 1942. He is still widely admired by Burmese people.
