Valerianate of soda is made by saturating caustic soda with vale-rianic acid, as produced by the distillation of fusel oil from a mix-ture of sulphuric acid and bichromate of potassa; the fusel oilloses two equivalents of hydrogen and gains two of oxygen, beingconverted into valerianic acid, which combines with soda.
