Kirk Hill, St Abb's Head: site of Colodaesburg Anglian fort & St Aebbe's C7th monastery which burned down after St Cuthbert gave a warning over the loose morals and high living at the double monastery (monks & nuns). Rebuilt, but destroyed by Danes in the C9th & its community under St Ebba the Younger martyred. Re-founded at Coldingham as a Benedictine priory 1098.
