The city of Alexandria is located on the northern, Mediterranean coast of Egypt, to the West of the Nile Delta. Founded around 331 BC by Alexander the Great, it has seen many conquerors and civilisations pass through, making it the most cosmopolitan and diverse city of Egypt. Here we see the large Kom el-Dikka archaeological site, which gives an insight to the Roman era of the city. This was a major civic center in Alexandria, with villas, a bath complex, auditoria and a theatre - seen city of Alexandria is located on the northern, Mediterranean coast of Egypt, to the West of the Nile Delta. Now Alexandria is the second largest city and largest port in the country, as well as a popular tourist destination and an important industrial centre. Here we see the Ras el-Tin Palace which overlooks the city's Western Harbour. Completed in an eclectic mix of Moorish, Renaissance and Baroque styles style for Mohammed Ali Pasha in 1847, it is now one of the official residences of the President of Egypt.
