The fittings,the lion head comb,the emblem,and the metal chinstrap(closure missing)with officer's rosettes,are all of gold-bronzed brass. Folded fabric cockade. Side-mounted socket for the red plume. Minor damage. Leather lining. In 1871,after their bad experience in the Franco-Prussian War,the French Minister of War,General Cissey,for the first time promoted better head protection for mounted troops.
