Berlin, Mitte Volkspark Humboldthain Wiedervereinigung, reunification memorial sculpture by Arnold Schatz on top of flak tower viewing platform- Old WW2 Anti-Aircraft flak tower and bunker with viewing platform. Landscape view of city. Humboldthain Volkspark is a public park and recreation area in the Brunnen (fountain) district of Berlin. It was established in 1876 to commemorate the birth of Alexander von Humboldt. It was the site of two anti-aircraft flak towers (flakturm) and bunkers during the second World War. The southern tower (Humboldthohe) was destroyed after the war and the rubble now forms a hill which is used as a toboggan run in Winter. The Northern Tower was partially destroyed and it is now used as a viewing tower and climbing wall and the interior is accessible in Summer. It is closed in Winter as it houses a large population of hibernating bats. The park has a rose garden, swimming pool, walking paths, biking paths, a playground, water garden and a vineyard
